B.A. Children and Youth Ministry

Department of Missions and Christian Education · 4 years · 53 courses · 100% online

About this programme

The teenagers who filled the youth church at fifteen are gone by twenty. The children's church is doing its best with songs and colouring while the phone in every pocket is teaching something else entirely. Youth work is usually given to whoever is young and willing, which is not the same as prepared.

Alongside the Academy's common core of Bible, doctrine, interpretation and church history, this degree concentrates on the young. Two fields carry the weight: human development, which explains why a child of seven and a boy of sixteen need different things from the same truth, and the study of the culture young Nigerians live in, online and off. Around these you build the disciplines of programme design, safeguarding and departmental administration, all of which ask for judgement rather than enthusiasm.

You will leave able to build a ministry that holds young people rather than entertains them, and to run it safely and accountably. Think of the child in your class now and the adult you hope they become. Study changes what you are able to give that child. Put your name forward and begin.

53 courses across 8 semesters, about 4 years of study.

Who it is for

Pastors, church workers and first-time students who want a full undergraduate education in ministry. No previous theological training is assumed; the first year begins at the beginning.

What you will be able to do

Preach and teach responsibly, handle Scripture with care, lead a congregation or ministry, and continue to postgraduate study if you choose.

How you will study

Every course here runs the same way, so you always know where you are.

  • Six study modules a course, each with a handout you can read on screen or download.
  • Video and audio of the same teaching, for studying while you travel or work.
  • A short refresher quiz to open each course. It is not scored, and you may retake it.
  • Two tests along the way, then a final examination. The pass mark is 50%.
  • Results appear as soon as you submit.

Study is entirely online and at your own pace. Everything works on a phone, and handouts can be downloaded to read without data.

Entry requirements
