Certificate in Christian Foundations & Discipleship

Department of Biblical Studies · 1 year · 8 courses · 100% online

About this programme

Plenty of believers have been in church for fifteen years and still cannot say why they are sure of salvation, cannot find their way around the Old Testament, and have never been shown how to feed themselves between Sundays. The faith is real, but it rests on sermons remembered rather than ground held.

This certificate lays that floor. The ground covered is the basic content of the faith, God, Scripture, sin, the cross and assurance, together with the working skill of studying the Bible for yourself instead of waiting to be fed. Prayer and the Spirit's work are treated as a life to be built rather than techniques to be picked up, and church history is used to show that your congregation stands in a much longer line than you expect. Running through all of it is the question of character.

You will come away with convictions you can explain to a doubting friend, a settled habit of study and prayer, and enough ground to disciple someone behind you. Picture the next hard conversation about faith, and yourself with something to say. Many students begin here before choosing a field of service, and you would be welcome to do the same.

8 courses across 2 semesters, about 1 year of study.

Who it is for

Believers who want a solid grounding in one area of ministry without committing to a degree. It suits workers already serving in a local church, and anyone returning to study after a long gap.

What you will be able to do

Speak and serve with confidence in this area of ministry, understand what Scripture teaches about it, and put that understanding to work in your local church.

How you will study

Every course here runs the same way, so you always know where you are.

  • Six study modules a course, each with a handout you can read on screen or download.
  • Video and audio of the same teaching, for studying while you travel or work.
  • A short refresher quiz to open each course. It is not scored, and you may retake it.
  • Two tests along the way, then a final examination. The pass mark is 50%.
  • Results appear as soon as you submit.

Study is entirely online and at your own pace. Everything works on a phone, and handouts can be downloaded to read without data.
