Department of Biblical Studies · 2 years · 12 courses · 100% online

About this programme

You have read the Bible for years and still find it hard to say how the whole thing holds together. Genesis, Isaiah, Luke and Revelation sit in one book yet can feel like separate worlds. Then someone in your Bible study asks a question and you realise you are answering from a sermon you once heard rather than from the text.

The programme walks the whole of Scripture, Old Testament and New, until the storyline reads as one story rather than a set of favourite passages. Beside that runs the discipline of interpretation, which is where most confident misreadings begin, with closer work in the Gospels and the letters of Paul. The central doctrines, the story of the church and reasoned answers to the questions people ask are set around this, so that what you know is held together rather than stored in pieces.

You will finish able to open any book of the Bible and know where it stands and what it is doing there. Imagine answering the next question in your Bible study from the text itself. Most students build on this ground before degree-level work, and you can start here too.

12 courses across 4 semesters, about 2 years of study.

Who it is for

Those who want more than a certificate gives: a broader foundation across the subject, taken at a steady pace. It is a natural route towards degree study later.

What you will be able to do

How you will study

Every course here runs the same way, so you always know where you are.

  • Six study modules a course, each with a handout you can read on screen or download.
  • Video and audio of the same teaching, for studying while you travel or work.
  • A short refresher quiz to open each course. It is not scored, and you may retake it.
  • Two tests along the way, then a final examination. The pass mark is 50%.
  • Results appear as soon as you submit.

Study is entirely online and at your own pace. Everything works on a phone, and handouts can be downloaded to read without data.
