M.A. Ministry Leadership

About this programme
There is a point at which a leader's problems stop being ministry problems and become leadership ones: a team that will not cohere, a vision no one can repeat back, a change everyone resists, money that runs out before the year does. This degree is for those already leading, who have found that experience on its own has stopped teaching them anything new.
It is built for people who cannot leave their post. The study opens with a theology of leadership and then turns to how organisations actually behave, taking in teams, culture, conflict, negotiation and leadership under pressure. Strategy is worked from vision through to execution, with financial leadership beside it, and real attention goes to leading change, to public influence, and to the use of data in ministry decisions. A supervised practicum and a strategic project close the work.
You will graduate able to set a direction and get an organisation to move with you, hold a team together, and lead through a change that costs something. Imagine the problem currently defeating you looking different because you have been taught how to name it. Senior pastors, executive directors and denominational officers train here, and you would be in good company.
14 courses across 4 semesters, about 2 years of study.
Who it is for
Those already trained in theology who want to go deeper, and to be equipped to teach and lead others. It assumes you have studied the subject before.
What you will be able to do
Teach the subject, supervise others, write to a scholarly standard, and lead at a senior level in the church or in theological education.
How you will study
Every course here runs the same way, so you always know where you are.
- Six study modules a course, each with a handout you can read on screen or download.
- Video and audio of the same teaching, for studying while you travel or work.
- A short refresher quiz to open each course. It is not scored, and you may retake it.
- Two tests along the way, then a final examination. The pass mark is 50%.
- Results appear as soon as you submit.
Study is entirely online and at your own pace. Everything works on a phone, and handouts can be downloaded to read without data.
